Good news - Pandora does NOT have bladder/kidney stones. She does have calcium oxalate crystals however. These could progress to form stones. So good news is we caught it early and she won't need surgery for removal.
Cause: unknown. Most instances are hereditary... however most instances are MALE dogs and of the littler breeds. Minature shnauzers and bichon frise. Dalmations occasionally.
could be hereditary, could be diet (the fact that she prefers a nearly exclusively protein diet.) or it could be the supplements she was on from January to May.
Treatment:.... LOL. A vegetarian diet. hahahahahahahahahaha. Good luck. Well actually there are 3 different canned foods that we are going to try her on. All very low protein. But even her veggie selection is limited. So diet initially. Later there are a few drugs she can try. But there is a 50% recurrance rate. So Hope to HECK she likes one of these foods... Otherwise....
Also increase the amount of water she drinks... uh yeah... I'll just pour it down her throat shall I? ... I'm supposed to add more water to the dog food and actually I made some vegetable broth ice cubes for her... we'll see if she likes them. Later once she's stabilized she can eat green grapes. and watermelon.
I'm actually hoping that it WAS the supplements. Then I can hope that in six months or a year from now we might be able to try to put her back on some kind of regular dog food. Or maybe I can cook her meals. She'll be allowed cooked chicken and rice/pasta... so ...
I have no idea what this is going to do to her weight. The raw diet is the only thing that I was able to get her to gain weight on. and KEEP it on. She just never liked dog food. (She's lost another pound since Friday.)
Green beans and carrots are on the BANNED list. Imagine that!
